Nigel Friend has over 20 years’ experience in the international energy sector. At KPMG in London, he led the corporate finance department that project-managed several significant corporate acquisitions and privatizations. In the 1990’s he led Enron Europe’s investment in an onshore gas field in the Thrace Basin in Turkey. At Pan Ocean Energy Corporation, he coordinated the spinout of the Company’s Tanzania natural gas business unit to shareholders and the listing of East Coast Energy. He was a Board Director and Chief Financial Officer of Orca between 2004 and 2012. More recently, he jointly founded a company that is developing new modular technologies that are designed to facilitate the monetization of natural gas. Nigel Friend is a qualified Chartered Accountant and holds a BSc (Hons) in Industrial Economics from Nottingham University.
Blaine E. Karst
Chief Financial Officer
Blaine Karst has over 30 years experience in senior financial management roles. He is a former Chief Financial Officer for Vostok Energy Plc, a private UK based group with oil and gas operations in Russia. Prior to that he was the in-country Finance Director in Vietnam and Russia for Soco International Plc, a London Stock Exchange listed international oil and gas exploration and production company. Blaine Karst has a B. Comm. from University of Saskatchewan and is a Canadian Accountant and Chartered Accountant.
Head of Business Development
Pierre Raillard has 25 years of operational and management experience in the energy sector. He was instrumental in Orca’s early success in Tanzania through his roles as Country Director and Vice President-Operations. He also served as an executive Director of the Company.
Between 2012 and 2017, he was Director, West Africa for African Petroleum Corp, where he managed ten production sharing contracts and Government relationships in five countries (Senegal, The Gambia, Liberia, Sierra-Leone and the Ivory Coast). More recently Pierre was Director, Africa for OneLNG (a joint venture between Schlumberger and Golar created to develop stranded gas assets via FLNG technology).
He holds a MSc in Chemistry from the Institut National Polytechnique of Toulouse (INPT – ENSIACET) and a MSc in General Management from the Aix-en-Provence Business School in France (Institut d’Administration des Entreprises).
Managing Director, PanAfrican Energy Tanzania Ltd
Andrew Hanna has worked with Orca and PanAfrican Energy Tanzania in various management roles for the past 7 years. He joined Orca following a career spanning four decades in the public sector where he led engineering, logistics and security projects around the world. Since joining Orca, he has played an integral role in the development and delivery of strategic and operational plans for PanAfrican Energy, while taking a lead role in the management of complex senior stakeholder issues in Tanzania. Andrew has a strong background in electronic and civil engineering and has a Masters Degree in Military Science from Cranfield University. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute and a Member of the Institute of Royal Engineers.
